LOCAL ANESTHESIA
Great Plains Oral Surgery & Implant Center offers local anesthesia for all procedures regardless if
the patient has any other type of anesthesia in addition. Intravenous Sedation and General Anesthesia are the most
common types of supplemental anesthesia we use in our outpatient surgical area.
CONSCIOUS SEDATION
With intravenous sedation or conscious sedation an intravenous catheter is placed and intravenous fluids
are administered. The patient is continously monitored as described. Medications such as Midazolam (an amnesia
causing sedative drug.) Fentanyl (a narcotic for pain relief) and Propofol or another similiar drug are used alone or
in combination.
The patient is sedated, relaxed and may have no awareness or recollection of procedure.
INTRAVENOUS GENERAL ANESTHESIA:
Intravenous general anesthesia is typically referred to as a deeper level of sedation where the patient
is essentially asleep during the procedure but breathing on their own accord.
BOARD CERTIFICATION IN ANESTHESIA
Dr.Steven R.Hinze is Board Certified in Dental Anesthesia and is licensed in Nebraska, to administer
General anesthesia.
